On the 11th and 12th June, the Tyke Trial club will open its doors to non-members for their famous annual two-day event at High Wood Farm, near Brimham Rocks in North Yorkshire. This is an extremely popular event, with the Saturday seeing contests, activities, training and master classes, dinner, the club’s annual awards ceremony all followed by a bonfire, with a competition on the Sunday.
This year’s event will be slightly different, not least as for the first time it will be open to non-members. Sunday’s trial will take a different format to the norm: riders in teams of four (one rider from each of the main classes – elite, expert/cadet, intermediate, novice/primary) will compete over two laps of eight sections to be the team with the lowest total score at the end of the day and take the overall win. Teams will go around together, in the hope that the younger or less experienced riders can gain from the experience and talent of the elite and expert riders. There will be some fantastic prizes up for grabs for the top three teams, with spot prizes to be awarded over the course of the weekend, so it should be a fun and competitive event.
Riders can submit their own teams, provided that they stick to the one rider from each class format. If there are any teams who struggle to find a rider for every class, they can submit as many riders as they have and the empty class(es) will be filled at random from single entries, giving everyone the chance to take part in the team element of the competition! As usual, entries can be made online on the Biketrial Federation’s events page, or by post by downloading and printing the form and sending it off.
Entry for the event is £20 per rider, which includes riding on Saturday, camping, insurance, entry to Sunday’s competition and food and drink on Saturday evening. Entry to Sunday’s competition only is £10. Entries are now open - head over to the events page, read the important informationa and then email your entries off!
