The talented Sunn-Atomz designer Philippe Bonnefoy (more about him later) told us in mid-August that he and his team were working on a new Sunn website which would integrate the trials branch of the brand. This new site has been online for a few weeks and the guys have done a really good job!
The new site shows off the whole Sunn range, including all of the products from Atmoz, the brands trials branch, which up to now did not have the honour of appearing in the Sunn catalogue. The site has been well made; modern, clear and very accessible and is available in both French and English!

The site also gives the history of the famous brand, founded in 1989 in Saint-Gaudens, in the foothills of Pyrenees, by one Max Commençal. He was joined soon after by Jean Philippe Garnier, aka Zoobab, an extraordinary designer who brought the dynamic and fun image that it is now famous for. The company began to gather prestigious BMX titles and then entered the world of MTB, with their aggressive geometries which would soon become the new standard. They got their big break in 1993 and with their un-equalled identity and successful 1003 range, their slogan “Va Rouler” (Go Ride) was on the lips of every MTB fanatic of the time. Over te next few years the brand was implicated in many MTB titles – DH with Cédric Garcia, Anne-Caroline Chausson, François Gachet or Nicolas Vouilloz, XC with Christophe Dupouey and Miguel Martinez and even trials with Thierry Girard, who was dominating the discipline! Max Commençal left the company in 1998 and Sunn went through a bit of a low period, but since 2005 the Saint-Gaudens company have been well and truly back on form, with a dynamic team and some great new bikes, they have re-found their footing. In 2006, Atomz, created by Christian Gugliotta and Cédric Calvin and with a reputation for seriously good and reliable products, joined Sunn. The combination of Christian’s experience and Sunn’s savoir faire rapidly brought about some great products; Atomz have fast become one of the major players on the international trials scene thanks to their technically advanced products and their team 1that includes some of the best riders on the planet (Marc Caisso, Giacomo Coustellier, Aurélien Fontenoy, Ben Slinger etc.) and their team 2, present at all international and regional French comps!
Of course, this new site presents the the new Atomz range in detail. It’s a complete range with an extremely successful top-of-the-range frame, the Quark, redesigned and rethought right down to the finest detail. It is an exceptional frame that everyone has been talking about this season, ridden by top riders such as Marc Caisso and Ben Slinger. A full test will follow on Tribal Zine over the next few days. The whole Atomz Premier range is there too, which has enjoyed just as much success; Christian Gugliotta was one of the first to launch affordable yet quality trials bikes!
