Situated in the South East of France in the middle of the Alps, Val d’Isère is one of the most beautiful towns in the Savoie region, nestled amongst the lush green mountains. With its stone and wooden chalets, its baroque church, its bubbling fountain and streets lined with flowers, this international resort has retained all of its rustic charm and beauty. The 1992 Olympic games, the 2009 Alpine Skiing World Championships… Val d’Isère has played host to international sporting events for over 50 years. The resort has been partnered with the Fédération Française de Cyclisme since the summer of 2009 and they have collaborated onsome great events. Last year saw the final of the French MTB Cup in August which was won by Aurélien Fontenoy in the Elite trials comp (in the absence of the two overall leaders, who were in Canberra for the World Championship).
The resort of Val d’Isère will, from tomorrow, play host to the most important event of the French season: the 2010 French MTB Championship (Cross country, DH, 4X and Trials) will take place from the 16th to the 18th July. The best MTB riders will come from all five corners of the Hexagone to compete on the mountain and, in our case, in the heart of the village! Gilles Coustellier is the obvious favourite in Elite and getting a fourth tricolore jersey is one of his main objectives this season. Tribal Zine will, of course, be on hand to follow the development of the event. Below you will find all the information you need to make the most of the Championship, which will be broadcast on French television on Wednesday 21st July on France 2 between 16:20 and 17:00. We hope to see some good trials footage in the report as we have done in previous years! For more info, head over to the Fédération Française de Cyclisme or the Club des Sports de Val d’Isère websites!

The 2008 & 2009 Championships:
France 2 showed some good footage of the 2008 and 2009 Championships, which Tribal Zine then showed you in the hours that followed their emission. Here they are again to remind you of how good they were!
2008... Gilles Coustellier continued on his rampage: after having taken the European Champion and World Champion jerseys in Germany and Italy, he also claimed the tricolore jersey in Serre-Chevalier by only conceding a single point!
2009... Gilles defended and retained his title in Oz-en-Oisans as aggressively as he had his European title in Zoertemeer (Netherlands), winning his third French Championship after a titanic battle with his main adversary Vincent Hermance!
