The start of the 2011 international season is upon us! Last year, it all go under way at the Tour de Scay with the tenth edition of the K-124 Days weekend, brilliantly organised by Alain Rémy and the whole BTFC team. It was a great weekend which will be remembered by all who attended. Alain and his 60 BTFC volunteers had done marvellously, taking the competition into a new dimension. This huge trials festival will once again open the international season, with the 11th edition again taking place at the Tour de Scay over the Easter weekend. This is a weekend that should not be missed!
The organisers have sent us some info on the 2011 edition. This year it will take place exclusively in the lower part of the Verjoulot site, and there will be no sections on the mossy rocks on the hillside, which caused a lot of problems for all riders last year. The Elite riders will have six sections, to be ridden in one direction on Saturday and in reverse on Sunday. All other categories will have four sections in the “forum” area and two spread over the natural area. A new training space has been created with new types of obstacles. The Four Cross track is already ready and it looks great, thanks to the BTFC’s great work once again! All useful information and a link to the event’s official site can be found below, along with a look back at last year’s event.

K-124 Days 2010:
K-124 Days opened the 2010 season, and what an opening it was! For its tenth anniversary the great trials festival was held, not at Buthiers as tradition would have had it, but on the home turf of Bike Trial Franc-Comtois, the club that organises the event, at the Tour de Scay. Alain Rémy and his team had put together a competition that was a little out of the ordinary (two-round format, Super Elite category, a mix of supersized UCI-style natural and artificial sections), which pushed riders from all over Europe to the very limits! The first round was held on the Saturday afternoon on the hillside above the Verjoulot site on 100% natural sections composed of mossy logs and muddy slopes. Hammering rain plagued the riders and made conditions even more technical and difficult; just getting through a section was an achievement! The crowd of spectators following the Elite and Super Elite riders through the mud were treated to an incredible and unforgettable spectacle. It was hard enough staying upright on foot, and the riders were giving their all trying to ride their bikes over these treacherous rocks. Benito Ros was the best of the Super Elites and took the lead with 39 points on his card, wigt points ahead of Vincent Hermance and Gilles Coustellier. Guillaume Dunand took the lead in Elite, ahead of Wesley Belaey and local boy Marius Merger. The following day, the second round and final took place on the lower part of the site, with a format more in keeping with current UCI competitions, although the sections were long and hugely difficult, with titanic gaps and ups. Benito, Gilles and Vincent put on a great show and finished with exactly the same points, each with 17 on their card. Benito therefore took the win ahead of the two Frenchmen, who were separated on mots ones, in favour of Gilles. Guillaume Dunand dominated once more in Elite, with a good lead over Spanish Junior Ion Areitio and Hannes Hermann (Germany). Here’s another look at our video from K-124 Days 2010, put together by Marcus Gelhard, (Gpoint / Tribal Zine), which plunges you into the heart of the event, as well as some photos from another German rider and image specialist, Nico Bahro, who gave us a different perspective on these two days of competition (more images can be found in the following galleries: Gallery 1, Gallery 2, Gallery 3 and Gallery 4).
