Anyone who has seen this 14 year old ride will tell you that he is a phenomenal rider and will go on to be one of the sport’s greats. He has been at the top of the British circuit for a few years now and in 2010 he was competing in Elite class! He won the British Trials Cup in Elite 20” class and finished second in the British Trials Championship in Fort William. On the international circuit he has cleaned up at the UCI World Youth Games two years in a row in Minime class, making it look all too easy.
This young prodigy (and Tribal Rider), who is supported by Koxx and Tartybikes recently made the move to 26”. He is currently riding the new Sky 2 and will, without doubt, continue to amaze with his skill, power and precision. Here’s a quick interview to introduce this super-talented youngster, illustrated with some photos from the 2010 season and some recent training sessions on his new bike.
Interview:
Hi Jack, first of all, Can you show us a copy of your birth certificate, no one seems to believe that such a talented rider is just 14 years old!?
Hi, haha – yes, I’m 14!
How long have you been riding for? How did you get into trials?
I have been riding 5 years. I got into trials after seeing some people was riding around the village where I live.
Who do you usually ride with?
On my own with my dad or with James Hyland (current British Cup Champion and another Tribal Rider).
Peux tu nous rappeler ton palmarès déjà impressionnant ?
I have won the British Trials Cup seven times. I also won the last two World Youth Games in Minime class.

You had an exceptional season in 2010: you won the British Trials Cup in Elite 20” and finished first in the British Championship, and in the World Youth Games you showed your superiority once more and flew over the sections without even breaking a sweat and only dropping one point on each lap! Can you tell us a bit about your season?
I trained very hard and the season went perfectly; just how I wanted it to go. Because I was riding in Elite class in the UK, when it was time to go to the youth games it felt like the trial wasn’t that hard because I knew I could do the sections without any problems.
How do you train? How many times a week to you ride? Do you work on your fitness in any other way? What are the secrets of your success? We saw that you had a bottle of coke with you at all times in Poland, is that it?
i ride four or five times a week. For fitness I go running and weight training and try to eat as healthily as I can. The Coca Cola was just for a bit of energy on the day.
What are your personal records? We heard that you hooked 64” the other day – is that your highest? What are your other personal bests? Yes at the moment that’s my best but I think that I could get a bit higher because when I hooked 64 I did it first time. I can also side hop 53 inches.

That’s a huge hook, especially for someone so young! What are your goals for 2011? It’ll be your first year in Cadet at the World Youth Games and you’re the man to beat! Do you feel any pressure?
Well my goals are to win the youth games again and try be in the top three in the UK in elite 26 and yes I do feel the pressure a bit but I can handle it.
Will you be coming back to K-124 Days this year?
Yes, I’ll be there, but I don’t know whether I’ll be riding in the competition; it depends on which category I’d be able to ride in, because I’d like to ride in a higher class than Minime. The main reason I want to go is to see the top riders in action, especially Gilles Coustellier.
You’ve moved to 26” for 2011, with a new sponsorship from Koxx. What do you think of your new Sky 2?
The sky 2 is the best bike I have ever ridden and I am riding it better than any other bike I have had. I would like to stay with Koxx for as long as I can
What are your hobbies apart from trials? Do you have time for anything else?
This winter I played a bit of rugby, but now that the season’s starting again I won’t have time to play for the team.
What have you got in your mp3 player at the minuet?
Trials videos and some music.
What do you think of Tribal Zine?
It’s the best website for trials.
Thanks Jack! All the best for 2011!
Cheers, bye!
