The third and final rounds of the British BIU Championship and the BIU European Cup took place on Sunday 20th September at Hook Woodes in Surrey. Hook Woods is a place of legend in British trials, a magnificent trials park that was the training ground for many years for Sam Connors, moto trials rider who was in the top ten in the World and who still rides today.
Write-up:
Heath Brindley, webmaster of British moto and biketrials website R2Wtrials, sent us this write-up of this major event in the British and international trials calendars...
A slightly cloudy but dry day dawned for the 3rd round of both the 2009 British and European Biketrial championship at Hook Woods in Surrey last weekend. A healthy entry of around 80 riders from all over the UK and Europe had 2 laps of 10 sections to negotiate, and the weather had been kind for the previous few days as the ground was dry and the rocks relatively grippy.
The man making the front running in Elite after the first lap was Sam Oliver (K124, Tarty Bikes) who weighed in with a loss of only 7 marks in the 10 long and technical sections, Danny Butler (Atomz) had been on a great lap but two fives resulted in a total of 10 for the lap. The same as Vaclav Kolar (Monty) riding in the Euro championship class. Alastair Clarkson (K124, Tarty Bikes) and Scott Wilson (Onza) were riding around together and trading scores with Ali just nudging ahead after the first lap.
Danny Butler (Atomz) then had a storming second lap with the loss of just a single dab on section 5, Sam Oliver improved with the loss of just 6 but that one point lap score of Butlers was enough to take the win. Sam was also riding for European points and took the win in that class with Kolar finishing second, but taking the win overall. Ali had a great second lap, finishing in third place in the British Championship ahead of James Sheridan and Scott Wilson (who were sparated by most cleans).
In Senior current European Champion Thomas Franscisco easily took the Euro win with a faultless clean ride, with Matthew Burge winning the British championship class ahead of James Butcher and David Kerr. A special mention must go to Dave Kerr who rode almost the whole event with a split rear wheel rim, he was spotted several times beating it back into shape with a rock so the brake pads would clear!!
In Junior, Belgian Pierre-Charles Thomas Ozonys / Tribal Zone), who has had a remarkable season at the same time as producing the excellent video(Pierre-Charles on street & natural), took the win with 14 points at Hook Woods, ahead of Czech rider Jan Musil (37) and Slovak Ladislav Janoska (38). The British title went to Ryan Trickett, fourth in the European round and series, with Jan in second and Pierre-Charles in third! In Minime, the very promising Jack Carthy, already crowned with one UCI world title this year, took the win in the British round, while the European title went to Czech rider Vojtech Kriva, who came fourth at Hook Woods. Italian Andrea Riva took the Benjamin with a perfect trial, ahead of Tribal Mascot the "Grillontosaure", UCI Poussin World Champion, who conceded just two points all day. British rider Charlie Rolls took the win in Poussin class and Lois Morgan won in Femina.
