THe second round of the World Cup took place this weekend in Heubach, Germany, just 100km from the French border, as part of the mountain bike festival, Bike the Rock 2009 (see Heubach World Cup round). It is the venue where Gilles Coustellier and Rafal Kumorowski won their European Champions jerseys, which features impressive and varied sections, mixing artificial (pipes of all sizes, concrete blocks, massive cable reels, beams, etc.) and natural (rocky passages, tree trunks, etc.) obstacles.
In 20", this round saw the return of Benito Ros, who dominated the competition from the semi-final onwards and took back the lead in the Cup. In 26", Gilles Coustellier didn’t have it all his own way and, for the first time in a very long time, was put under pressure from the semi-final onwards by his brother Giacomo, Kenny Belaey and Vincent Hermance. In the end, he had to bow to King Kenny, who, after an excellent second lap in the final, took the win and is now tied with Gilles in the Cup.
Heiko Lehmann, a Junior 20" rider from Germany, aka Nos-Trial on Observed-Trials.Net, has, as he did last year, has sent us the first photos of the event. There are photos from both the competition and the warm-up, as well as from the high jump contest that took place after the main event. This year it was won by World Champion Benito Ros, who also set a new official world sidehop record of 142cm!
A big thanks to Heiko for the photos!
