Gilles Coustellier has just recovered from a bad sprain and has started training again, with the support of those who have been around him since the start and who have helped him to reach the highest level in the sport, with Michel Coustellier, his father, trainer and mechanic at their head.
The French, European and World Champion has also been preparing for the 2010 season with a new coach; Xavier Barbier. Xavier is a specialist in sports performance who has earned his stripes coaching American football and basketball players. He is a well know sports coach who is a part of the new so-called ‘global’ generation that takes into account all aspects of performance. His training concept targets all the different aspects of health and performance: prevention of pain and injury, improving physical and muscular qualities (explosiveness, speed and coordination), improving aerobic capabilities focussing on the ability to repeat the short explosive efforts that are so important in trials.
Xavier Barbier the the founder and manager of Performance Athlétique, who offer their services to sportsmen and women at all levels, to educators, amateurs and coaches. They are based in the Paris region, with a website that clearly presents all of their activities and services (www.performanceathletique.com) and a regularly updated blog full of good advice on physical preparation and sport in general (performanceathletique.blogspot.com). You can also subscribe to articles by Gilles’ new coach on his Facebook page. We wish them both the best for their new collaboration and we will look at their preparation in more detail soon!
