Addo mountain bike display team has changed ownership. Dr Matt Barlow, who established the business in 2009, has sold Addo to Ben Savage, the owner of Savage Skills.
Matt said, “Ben and I have worked together in the past on a number of occasions. I’m excited that someone so experienced is going to take the Addo brand forward.”
Matt gained his PhD in 2012, alongside running Addo, and published his research– which focused on the motives for participation in high risk sport – in the world’s number 1 journal for Social and Personality Psychology. Currently Matt is involved in both a research project for UK Sport, with super-elite Olympic athletes and coaches, and a Postdoctoral research fellowship at Bangor University. Matt said, “Addo was incredibly busy with a full season of bookings for 2014: especially with the Tour De France starting in the UK this year. As such I had to accept that I simply would not be able to run both my business, and my sport psychology research, at the high level I desire. One role had to stop and it’s the right time to pass on the reigns to Ben and let him move Addo forward.”
Ben, who himself is a three time bike trials world champion, currently runs the successful Savage Skills demo team who appeared on ITV’s ‘Lets Get Gold’. Ben is competing for Great Britain again this year at the World Championships, riding on the Animal Action Sports Tour and now runs two separate demo teams. Ben said : “It will be a very busy year with all the business commitments as well as a full training schedule to be ready for round one of the worlds. I can’t wait”.
Ben also spoke of his excitement at taking ownership of an established brand in the trials demo world, “Addo have built up a very strong reputation in the last five years, performing demos for some incredibly high profile clients. It’s a great business opportunity for me. I now aim to run both the best demo team in England, and the best demo team in Wales.”
