We have been following with interest the progress of Louis Grillon (aka the Grillontosaur) this season. This young (9 years old!) trials rider who has dominated the podiums throughout the 2008 season, in all four corners of the world, perhaps most notably in the Poussin World Championship or when he won the Koxxdays green category.
At the end of last year we presented his new bike, the Koxx Foxx 2009, a bike aimed at smaller riders, whose design and specification is very similar to that of a much older rider’s bike: Alu 6061-T X-Diamond frame and fork, 108.9 freewheel, KMC Light chain and even Try-All Holes rims...
The Grillontosaur and his dad Laurent have been hunting down those extra grams and have saved more than 800g on the complete weight of the bike, which now weighs just 6.84kg! To achieve this, they kitted it out with Ti bolts, a carbon BB, drilled the forks and hubs and fitted lightened axles...
Laurent tells us more:
It wasn’t at all complicated to create such a light bike!
Here’s the recipe for your own "Foxx Light"...
drilled magnesium pedals,
a light 90mm x 25° stem stem (ours is a prototype, but there’ll be similar ones on the market),
carbon handlebars,
Ti bolts,
Ti transmission,
machined out hub bodies
machined Alu 7000 hub axles... He’ll have Ti ones soon, but Alu 7000 will do.

We replaced the fork with an XTP model (also in aluminium), and drilled it.
foam grips
alu nipples
But the ’diet’ isn’t over yet - we’re going to go over the whole bike, component by component! To be continued....
We’re also taking this opportunity to put up some photos of the Grillontosaur in action on the rocks at Buthiers at the start of the year. On profite de cet article pour mettre en ligne ces photos du Grillontosaure à l’action sur le grès de Buthiers, en tout début d’année. They were taken by Christian Morfaux, a great photographer and moto trials rider (multiple Ile de France champion in S2) and a long-time friend of Laurent.
The Grillontosaur in battledress ;-)
Soon to come on Tribal Zine, an interview with this incredible little trials rider!
