The second round of the Tyke Trial club championship took place on Sunday at Addingham Moorside in Yorkshire. Once again, the weather was glorious (I’m suffering from sunburn as I write this!) and a lot of riders turned out to ride in the competition.
The sections were a little harder this time round and this, combined with the sweltering conditions, made for some tired riders and some high scores (as well as some very low ones!). There were no problems finding observers this time round, meaning that the competition got off to a smooth start at 10.30, with the last rider finishing at about 16:00.
Elite
Elite category was an intensely fought and exciting competition, with very little separating the top three riders. The sections looked pretty scary in places, with big ups and drops and a lot of pointy rocks! Jack Carthy (Onza/Tarty Bikes) took the top spot, managing to complete two laps of eight sections without conceding a single point – the perfect trial! Jack is certainly one to watch for the future (heck, he’s one to watch now!) and we’ll be following his progress with great interest). Jack was followed by James Hyland with one point and Andy Ford on 13. Elite riders Ben Savage and Andrew Walker (both riding for Rockman) were there, but not competing. Andrew is recovering from an injured collarbone (he hopes to be fit in time for the first round of the British National Trials Cup) and came along to observe (thanks Andy!), and Ben was getting used to his new 24” Rockman Traktor.

Cadet
The difficult sections in this second round saw a few riders move down to intermediate class on the day, but Cadet class was still quite well attended and the scores were quite spread out. Jack Chapman finished in first place with 14 points on his card, followed by Tom Hooper in second place on 24 points in his second comp in the category. Sam Cahill took third with 39 points.

Intermediate
Intermediate was the most populated category with 19 riders competing for the podium spots. The top spot went to Chris Fairbairn with five points. He was followed by Jed Hesling and Sam Day, who both finished on ten points. Their score cards were carbon copies of each other, meaning that they had to be separated on time, with Jed just Edging Sam out to take second. Charlie Rolls (8years old), who won National 4 category at K-124 Days, finished fifth. The youngster is improving at an alarming rate and is another bright hope for UK competition trials!
