The Laureus World Sports Awards are the awards given each year to sports stars who have been successful over the previous year. These awards, which last year celebrated their 10th anniversary, are considered the most important honourable distinctions in the sporting calendar and are sponsored by big businesses (including Mercedes-Benz). The first awards took place in Monaco on the 25th May 2000. The 2010 edition took place in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday 10th March. There were two trials riders present: Danny MacAskill, who was among the nominees in the category of Action Sportsperson of the Year (and no-one was more surprised than he) and the number one rider in the world Kenny Belaey, who put on a trials demonstration in front of the numerous big personalities present. Images of trials at the Laureus World Sports Awards can be found below. The other nominees for the action sports prizes were Surfing World Champions Mick Fanning (AUS), Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) and Greg Long (USA), the Tour de Rosée skating champion Chris Cole (USA) and the windsurfer Antoine Albeau (FRA) who won the 2009 PWA World Slalom Championships. Finally, Stephanie Gilmore who walked away with the highest honours in this category. Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt walked away with the Sportsman of the Year award.
