We’ve got a great bunch of riders riding under the Tribal Zine banner this year and we thought it was about time we introduced them.
Jack Carthy
14 year old Onza Jack Carthy needs no introduction. Despite his young age, Jack has won countless Elite competitions, both nationally and internationally. He’s had some excellent results so far this season (5th in the first round of the British Cup, 1st in the second round, 2nd in the third round, 1st in the fourth round) 2nd in the British Championship, 1st in every round of the Tyke Trial Club Championship) and is currently leading in 20” Elite in the British Cup series. He also won the 2010 World Youth Games and the 2010 UCI World Championship in Minime class. We’re really excited to see how Jack’s riding evolves and predict that he is destined for great(er) things!

Sam and Charlie Rolls
11 year old Sam Rolls, from Longstowe in Cambridgeshire, has been riding for three years and is currently riding a Monty Kamel 221. Sam is another keen competitor, attending as many EBTC, Tyke Trial and British Cup and Championship rounds as possible. In 2009, Sam finished second in the BIU British Championship in Benjamin class and third in the UCI British Championship in Poussin. His favourite riders are Danny Mac, Danni Comas, James Sheridan, Ben Savage and Dave Kerr and his favourite move is the crank hop. When he’s not riding his bike, Sam likes Clay pigeon shooting, woodwork and steak (good lad!).

Sam’s younger brother Charlie (9) has also been riding for 3 years. He rides a custom sprayed Monty Kamel 231 and, like his brother, is a regular at British and international competitions. He practises almost every day, attending as many Tyke Trial, EBTC and British National competitions as possible. In 2009 Charlie became the UCI British Poussin Champion and won an EBU European round in the UK followed by another in 2010 in Italy before being crowned the 2010 BIU World Bike Trial Poussin Champion! Charlie-s ambitions for 2011 are to improve his riding skills, grow a bit bigger and to have more success in competition. His favourite riders are Toni Bou, Danny Macaskill, Dani Comas, Ben savage, Jack Carthy, Dave Kerr and Sam Oliver and like his brother, his current favourite move is the crank hop. In those rare moments that he-s not on his bike, Charlie enjoys watching motorbike trials and steak and chips!

Nathan Marks
20 year old Nathan Marks is from Southampton, and has been riding for four and a half years. He is riding for the Tribal team and the K-124 Team 2. He has competed in the HBTC competition series with some good results in 2009. Nathan’s influences come from the European ‘big guns’ of the UCI circuit, including Gilles and Giacomo Coustellier and Vincent Hermance, and he tries to translate their large, technical styles to the street. Nathan has been injured for much of 2010, a dislocated knee in April meant that he was off the bike for what must have been a very frustrating four months! He’s back on the bike now, riding a brand new Koxx Grey Sky, and is riding better than ever!
Nathan’s goals for the next year are to avoid injury and try to sustain a good run of competition results.

Jamie Bew
Jamie Bew is a sixteen year old expert rider from Northallerton. A dedicated member of the Tyke Trial club, Jamie competes regularly in club rounds and in the British National Cup, finishing on the podium more often than not. Not only is he a great young rider, Jamie is one of the friendliest and most enthusiastic riders we have ever come across, always with a smile on his face and an encouraging word for his fellow competitors. In 2010 Jamie was awarded the Ben Carlile Trophy for the Tyke Trial member who has contributed the most to the club in the past year, and he certainly deserves it!
In 2009 Jamie won the British National Trials Cup in Cadet class and he is currently sitting in third place in Expert 20” with just one round to go. He also won the 2009 Tyke Trial Championship in Cadet class and, with two rounds left of the season, is comfortably leading the series in Expert 20”.
Jamie is riding for the Tribal Team and The Bike Outlet on a Monty Kamel XXV.

Steve Rogers
Although 20 year old Steve is a keen competitor (1st Place in Expert at the Addingham Moorside nationals, 2nd in Elite at the EBTC round in Santon Downham and 3rd in Elite at the Shipley Glen Tyke Trial) he is perhaps best known for his stylish and creative videos which he regularly uploads to the forums. We’re big fans of his 20” vs. 26” series and of his 2010 promo video. Steve is currently looking for sponsors, so if you like what you see contact trialskicksass@hotmail.com!

Of course, like all of us, he’s also a rider and a keen competitor – he finished second overall in Cadet 26” (BIU Expert) in the 2009 Tyke Trial Championship after riding four of the seven rounds and is competing in Cadet 26” again this year in both the Tyke Trial club Championship and the British Trial Cup. He has had some good results so far this season, with podium finishes in several competitions including the British Trial Championship in Fort William, the third and fourth rounds of the British Trials Cup and the fifth round of the Tyke Trial Championship.
