2009 is a "year of revolution" for Ozonys, with a new technically and aesthetically innovative range, built with competition riding in mind, right down to the smallest detail. The frame designs have been rethought in order to make them as light as possible without compromising the strength and reliability that have contributed so much to the brand’s success: the headtube and bottom bracket have been lightened, all tube thicknesses have been recalculated, the frames feature an integrated CNC booster and so on. The two major innovations, which are subject to patents, concern the 26" models. Their geometries are variable according to three different settings and the new chain tensioner system is fitted to the chain stay and allows an optimal chain tension and protection.
Bruno Arnold showed us the new Cannibal 2009 in December, which has been being tested by Guillaume Dunand (seeded 4th by the UCI in 2008 and who was at K-124 Days 2009). It is a beautiful bike with a classy and original look to it and will be available three weeks from now, a delay for which the Ozonys boss apologises, saying it was out of his control.
He has just shown is the replacement model for the famous XR 26, which will take its place at the top of the brand’s 26" range: the Curve 26. The 6061 Alu frame features a lot of the same innovative design features as the Cannibal (CNC pieces, lightened headtube and BB, recalculated tube thicknesses for the best weight to strength ratio, adjustable geometry and new chain tensioner system), but has a different geometry: it’s 5mm longer than the cannibal, and the geometry of the medium frame is 380/+40/1090mm. It’s shape is also very different, with curved tubes and a very classy paint job which mixes sky blue, black and grey on a white background. The published weight at this stage is 1.750kg.
The bike will be supplied with a new curved fork, whose weight has been announced as just 800g, and not with the straight-blade fork shown in the 3D drawings below.
The bike will be available in 6-7 weeks and Bruno will be showing us the first pictures of its little brother, the Curve 20, in the next few days. Ozonys have just received the prototypes of the two new models and Guillaume Dunand is already riding his Curve 26. Photos to some soon!
