JPEG - 145.6 kb The Elite 26" Final of the 2010 World Championships in Mont Sainte-Anne took place on Sunday afternoon and defied all expectations… Kenny Belaey (Monty) achieved his main goal of the season, winning the prestigious rainbow jersey (his fourth Elite world title!), and with style too! At the end of the first lap the competition was all but over: the Red Bull rider was ahead with 13 points on his card, ahead of Marc Caisso (Atomz) on 18 and Gilles Coustellier (Koxx) on 22! Kenny further improved his performance on the second lap (12 points) and opened up a large gap between him and his competition. Benito Ros (Koxx) climbed through the ranks to take the silver medal, ahead of the incredible Marc Caisso who took bronze… the final act in an exceptional career that has been punctuated with two Elite world titles. Abel Mustieles (Koxx) managed to overtake the man who, until now, has dominated the sport, Gilles Coustellier, who never got back into the competition. The two top dogs of the 20” world, Benito Ros (Elite 20" World Champion) and Abel Mustieles (Elite 20” Vice- World Champion) have shaken up the hierarchy of world 26” trials! British Champion Ben Savage (Rockman) finished in sixth place ahead of Canadian John Webster (Rockman). Vincent Hermance (Koxx) was forced to retire after the first lap due to an injured ankle. Four members of the Tribal Team were on hand to bring you their impressions of the action, including Julien “El Pinpino” Letrouit, an active member of the Quebec trials season who was instrumental in the creation of the Taz park in Montréal and one of the founders of Tribal Zine (in 1998, don’t we feel old !) and Sylvain “Sylbegood” Randier, the brother of the webmaster/editor of your website… It’s like a waking dream for them as they watch the extraordinary performances of the greatest riders on the planet on the enormous, original and well-thought-out sections that had been set by the Gestev team. Our impressions...

PNG - 318.6 kb The Elites were a bit luckier than the rest of the riders had been; the rain left them well alone. The sections had obviously been designed with the spectators in mind, with several enormous ups, ‘simplified’ with small kickers. All the same, some passages looked all but impossible and the fives began to fall immediately, with riders having to be crafty just to get through the sections.

The big surprise of the competition was Gilles’ lacklustre performance. With four fives on the first lap he was already out of the running! Kenny, on the other hand, was as consistent as ever. At the end of the first lap all he had left to do was make sure of each move and not take any risks is order to win the competition. Vincent Hermance was also busy collecting fives and was forced to retire after his first lap after injuring his ankle. This opened up the door for Marc Caisso, who was riding very well and not making many mistakes. However, the big question was what the incredible Benito Ros would do. He had a few of fives on the first lap but he soon pulled himself together. He seemed less at ease than on a 20” and used some strategic dabs to get through some of the passages, but apart from that, he was riding very strongly!

In the final section, Gilles, knowing he had lost, attempted the most difficult move, which noo one had managed to get through clean, and managed it with style to the rapturous applause of the crowd, proving that he is still a force to be reckoned with! In the end it was Kenny who finished in first place, Benito in second and Marc finished his career in style on the third step of the podium, on equal points with Benito! Emotions were running high as he finished his last section, ending an exceptional career to a vibrant ovation from the crowd!
