The third round and final of the European Cup was played out on Saturady in Scheibenberg, Germany. Tribal Zine was there to take part and to report on the event. 78 from 11 different countries made the journey to the competition, which was faultlessly organised by Jürgen Brauer and the Motorsport Club Scheibenberg team. The club is celebrating its 50th year and is used to organising events of this calibre – they even organised the 1997 moto trials world championship!
The sections were of a high level and nice and varied: there were six natural sections and two artificial, situated by the side of an impressive ski-jump ramp. When the riders walked the sections nothing seemed insurmountable in any of the classes, but the torrential rain had other ideas. In the top categories, just getting through a section was an exploit in itself: the five Elite riders only managed to get through any of the sections five times out of forty! It was a difficult and unpleasant trial for them! Despite the weather and the fact that we were half way up a mountain, there were plenty of spectators in attendance, families, friends and fans had come to see some sport and support the riders, who were going through hell (albeit a very wet one)! Bike and trials culture is obviously very important in Germany!
The Elite competition was won by top Czech rider Vaclav Kolar, ahead of his countryman David Herka (Monty), and Tribal / Koxx rider Tom Francisco. Javi Alonso, who won the previous round, was relegated to fourth place in the final but still walked away with the Cup, with David Herka and Vaclav Kolar in second and third respectively. The Senior competition saw Koxx’s Pavel Prochazka take the win with an impressive lead over Thomas Helbig (Onza) and Peter Bäckgren (Born).
He took the overall Cup win ahead of Supertrial Show’s Sebastian Hopfe and Thomas Helbig. In Junior UCI German and European 20” Champion Raphaël Pils came in first in the final, ahead of Ladislav Janoska, who took the overall win. In Minime Czech rider Matej Popelka finished ahead of his countryman Vojtech Kriva, to take the win in the final, although Vojtech took the overall win. Italian Andrea Riva finished in third place in Germany and second overall. In Benjamin, Tribal Mascot Louis Grillon wanted to try the big moves rather than make sure with a dab and consequently finished in second place in the final, although he won the Cup. In Poussin, it was a new and impressive victory for Tribal Rider Romain Léonard in both the final and the Cup. Jerika Hlavata (Czech Republic) took the win in the Femina final, while Marie Krivova took the overall victory. Below are the podiums and full results for all classes as well as a collection of photos from this sodden final!
