The 2009 World Cup Final took place this weekend in Rotorua, one of the most touristic areas of the North Island of New Zealand and a town now used to large UCI events. Rotorua also saw the MTB and Trials World Cup in 2006, when Kenny Belaey was crowned Elite World Champion for the second consecutive time, although the 20” title slipped from Benito Ros’ grasp and went to German rider Marco Hösel !

PNG - 366.8 kb This year it was the 2009 World Cup final that was played out over the Rotorua sections, under a radiant sunshine and in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd. The artificial sections were a bit smaller than those of the previous Cup rounds. In the absence of Frenchmen Gilles Coustellier and Vincent Hermance, Kenny went on to win the 2009 Cup Final in Rotorua. The same went for six-time World Champion Benito Ros who, in the absence of his main rival Dani Comas, easily won the final and added another World Cup to his trophy cabinet. Below are the results and a few photos from the weekend.

The Elite 26" Final:

- The Final :

On Sunday, in the latter part of the afternoon, Kenny Belaey took an easy victory in the 2009 World Cup Final, at the same venue where he had been crowned World Champion in 2006. The Belgian only conceded four points in the first two sections before making ten consecutive cleans! It is the sixth time that he has won this prestigious trophy, and it was a good day for the Bealey family all round; his brother Wesley took up the second step of the podium with 13 points on his card, ahead of German Champion Hannes Hermann in third with 14. - The overall results of the World Cup:

World Champion Gilles Coustellier, who was not present at this final round, had nevertheless scored enough points over the previous four rounds to take second place over all. Ben Slinger, who came fourth in the final, finished in third place over all, a just reward for an exceptional international season.

The Elite 20" Final:

- The Final:

On Sunday, at the beginning of the afternoon, Benito Ros took the victory, having already been crowned World Champion in Canberra last weekend, meaning that he had taken the double for the second consecutive year! What’s more, he only conceded one point throughout the whole final, almost a perfect trial! Fellow Spaniard Carles Diaz came in second with ten points on his card. Rick Koekoek of Holland was third in this fifth round, ahead of Pole Rafal Kumorowski; both riders coming in equal on twelve points, with Rick winning out on most cleans (six compared to Rafal’s five). Karin Moor has won everything this season: the European and World Champion won the 2009 World Cup Final in Rotorua on Saturday with a large lead over Gemma and Mireia Abant Condal! She finished the 18 sections with a total of 31 points on her card, 19 points ahead of the Spanish sisters. It is the sixth consecutive time that she has won this prestigious trophy!
