Top Atomz rider Nicolas Vuillermot stopped riding at the beginning of March to have his ankle operated on at the Maussins-Nollet clinic in Paris on Thursday, 4th March. The operation went perfectly smoothly, and since then he has been waiting for one thing: to start riding again! He was told he would have to wait two long months before he took it back up, but his recovery has actually gone quicker than planned! His doctor even gave him the okay to start riding again at the end of last month. However, Nico preferred to wait a while, to be sure to give the best account of himself at the next World Cup. A few days ago we crossed paths with him one fine morning at the Buthiers outdoor centre, where he was going to coach the young local trials riders, and he told us that everything was going well and his return to riding was imminent. On Monday he got back on his Quark, motivated like never before, as you can see on his blog...
The moment I’ve been waiting for for two months has finally arrived: I CAN RIDE AGAIN! My surgeon has told me that I can start riding again, my ankle has grown stronger and I can start training again at pretty much full-tilt.
The first few rides are always physically difficult, but I have more than enough motivation. I have a month to get back to my best for the first round of the World Cup.
I’m considering taking part in Mézière in 2 weeks to see where I’m at in terms of competition. This weekend I’m going to Rennes to ride with Guillaume Dunand, Elie Boucher, Valentin Gaucher, Nicolas Gagnaire, Etienne Kervella and other riders. It’s perfect for a comeback.
Now there are no more questions to ask myself: it’s just training, training training!
Glad to see you back on the sections Nico’! We wish you maximum success in 2010!
Below, here are some more screenshots of Nico’ that we took during the Trophée de Buthiers, the last competition he took part in before his operation... he was extremely impressive on his Quark. He cleaned the sections with an impressive speed, making light work of all the tricky moves. But an unfortunate fall on his second lap just consigned him to second on the podium (he would be separated from Kevin Aglaé according to who had the best second lap.)!
