The new World Champion Kenny Belaey got back to Belgium recently and spoke of his immense satisfaction following his coveted victory…

PNG - 298.6 kb I’m proud to announce you that I won the world championship in Canada for the 4th time in the elite class (9th time in total counting all the cadet and junior titles) . I’m so stoked, that I can’t describe it. I have put so much hard work in it and tried to get it back year after year, since 2006 was the last time. But now that I have it, it feels awesome; I can assure you! Whole year long I have been thinking about winning this race and it was the only one that counted for me. In the Spanish World cup and in the European championships I was really close so I knew it was possible but in sport it’s always easier said than done... I won the semi finals on Friday with a big advantage so I could start in the driver seat which allowed me to put pressure on Gilles during the finals on Sunday. A strategy that worked out very well looks like because from the beginning Gilles made the one mistake after the other. It was even so bad that I didn’t have to look after his score anymore after the first lap so all of a sudden Benito Ross and Marc Caisso were the closest. I finished the whole trials with a 14 points advantage ... great feeling. I would like to take the opportunity to thank the Fédération Belge de Cyclisme and Montyfor sending Cesar Canas for their support, my family supporting me from Belgium, my coach Paul because without him I am sure I wouldn’t have done this! Also my dad and Fien for being there during this event and also for supporting me off the bike all year long... living with someone like me can’t be easy lol. Also big up to all my sponsors, without them nothing is possible!! Enough talking now, time for some partyyyyyyyyyy

Kenny and his friends and family toasting his rainbow jersey with some good Belgian beer… The “World Champ Party”... The best photos of Kenny’s exploits were being shown on a large TV, courtesy of Tribal Zine…
