Here are the podiums and full results from the 2011 K-124 Days, which were an incredible success once again! Alain Rémy’s huge trials meet was, once again, of an exceptional intensity, with excellent sections, a brilliant and unique atmosphere.
K-124 Days is definitely a unique event. There is an atmosphere that you find nowhere else, giving this festival of trials an almost mystical dimension. There’s a natural mystic... Blowing through the air... K-124 Days is as rock and roll as any festival out there, with plenty of sweat and good vibes... Alain Rémy leads the dance, with the whole trials world dancing with him. The festival also marks the opening of the international season, giving it an even more important dimension: the leading lights of the UCI circuit come to start their seasons, to see where they are in comparison to the others after a long period of winter training. But it’s only the first competition of the year and, as the riders will all tell you, it’s the hardest!
It is Alain Rémy’s mission to confront the riders with ever more difficult sections, to push them to their limits and to ever increase the level of riding in our sport. He who does well at K-124 Days is sure to do well for the rest of the season. Last year, Benito ‘La Bestia’ Ros dominated both rounds of K-124 Days 2010, going on to dominate the rest of the season as well: he won everything! This event is a bit experimental in its nature, which it can afford to be, as it is not part of the official circuit. The idea of the Super Elite category, which is now being picked up elsewhere, was born here. The format of the Elite/Super Elite competition is unusual as well, and demands much more from the riders: it takes place over two days, with riders having to push themselves just as much on the first day as the second. The points are equal for each day and are accumulated. The competition doesn’t just cater for the top riders however, alongside the ‘main event’, which is run according to UCI rules, there are categories for all abilities, run to BIU rules. The two federations, that of today’s Elite and the original, which is where tomorrow’s champions come from, are united for one weekend. Peace & Trial... Biketrial and UCI rub shoulders, and the younger riders compete alongside the UCI top dogs. But the sections setters’ brief is the same for these lower categories as for the top two: to confront the riders with something different,
to take them out of their comfort zone and give them a taste of international competition. And they know how to do that at the Tour de Scay! The BTFC have organised several BIU World Championships, with the last being in 2008. Riders come from all over Europe to test themselves on the rocks here…
Once again, the BTFC and K-124 have given us something unique, exciting and intense. Great work! No less than 165 riders answered the call and presented themselves foe the attack on the Tour de Scay. The winners of this year’s event, which you have been able to follow ‘live’ thanks to Tribal Zine’s coverage of the Elite and Super Elite competitions are: Gilles Coustellier in Super Elite, Ion Areitio in Elite, Guillaume Jury in Senior/Expert, Johan Buchwalder in Minime/National, Jonas Friedrich in Benjamin/R1, Adam Morewood in Poussin/R2 and Ewen Leost in Découverte. Well done to all of the riders who took part, and thanks to the BTFC and K-124 for this amazing weekend!
