Straight from Buthiers, here are the full results of the first round of K-124 Days 2009. This year there was a new category for the top riders - Super Elite. Nine riders started out, faced with monstrous sections like we’d never seen before! The Elite riders faced some daunting sections too... In each there was a gap of almost 2m. There were also some massive sidehops, like the one in the penultimate section - a good 1m40 high! There were a total of 5 sections, each to be ridden twice. The sections for the second round will be different and just as challenging!
In the end it was Gilles Coustellier who led the field with 22 points (which just goes to show the level of difficulty of the sections), ahead of an on-form Vincent Hermance, just 3 points behind. Kenny Belaey is currently in 3rd place with 32 points. Unlike 2008, nothing is set in stone after the first round and Sunday’s competition is set to be very tense. Giacomo Coustellier was forced to retire following a technical problem, but will ride on Sunday all the same. The Elite sections were a little easier than last year, and it was UK Atomz rider Ben Slinger who took the lead on 11 points, ahead of the young Spaniard Abel Mustieles with 14 points and the dutch rider Rick Koekoek on 17.
