John Webster is the latest phenomenon to come from the other side of the Atlantic, from Canada to be precise. The Rockman rider was one of the big surprises at the 2010 World Championship in Mont Sainte-Anne, qualifying for the Elite final alongside the world’s greatest riders (see our interview). It was his first UCI competition of the season and he finished seventh overall. A result made all the more impressive when you realise that he had been relatively unheard of until then and was practically unsupported at the time. He even had to make his own Canadian team jersey in a Tshirt shop near where he lives! John is an extraordinary personality, defined by his passion and determination, which have propelled him to the highest level in the discipline. And if that weren’t enough already, he did it again in 2011 at the Champéry World Championship, finishing even higher than in 2010! He qualified in seventh place in the semi-final, defeating some of the big names of the UCI circuit once again, and managed to finish fourth in the apocalyptic Elite 26” final on his Slate II XL!
This astonishing competitor, who is one of the ambassadors of this site (John Webster, Tribal Rider) has recently brought out a new video. And what a video! Put together by another Canadian rider, Dave Lloyd (Visual Carnage Productions), this little gem shows some of the action from the Champéry final before moving on to some heavy duty training sessions with the Canadian No. 1. It’s a video that really demonstrates the power, precision and mindset of a purely competitive rider. We love it!
