Here it is at last, the long-awaited video that everyone has been talking about... After more than two years of hard work and reflection, a serious back operation and more than a few setbacks, Red Bull powered Scot Danny MacAskill unveils his Imaginate project.
Cut Media and Mike Christie were behind the camera for this project, which takes us, as the title suggests, into Danny’s imagination. We’re back on the Isle of Skye, this time in Danny’s bedroom as he plays with his childhood toys, riding them in his imagination on his Inspired Skye. We’ve all dreamed of riding the lines that we see on our desks or toys; Danny’s been lucky enough to actually do it! Watching the video is a pretty surreal experience and it really does seem as though Danny has been shrunk and is riding on a child’s toys! Danny had mentioned that he had pushed the level of his riding and he was true to his word; the video features a whole host of lines that will have people talking not only about his talent, power and technique, but also about his imagination and creativity. The flips over the swiss balls (including one onto a rail!) is simply incredible; something no one’s ever done before! The rest of the video continues in the same line, with Danny pulling flairs, 180s, front and backflips, a 360 backflip (the first on a trials bike!) and a whole host of big and technical trials moves, including a scary-looking 180 over a drop gap from one giant pencil to another and some mobile obstacles that move as he lands on them. Awesome. All of Danny’s childhood toys are there, from a racing car loop-the-loop and a model tank and soldiers to huge piles of building blocks, and he rides them all! Until his mum (played by herslef!)calls him for his tea and puts and end to the fun, that is!
The production is of exceptional quality, with cinematic shots, altra-professional lighting and set design, it’s a video unlike anything we’ve seen before or, we imagine, will see again. Danny’s riding and imagination, Stu Thompson and Mike Christie’s talent for filming and production and Red Bull’s backing and promotion come together to create a cinematic experience the likes of which trials has never seen or, we imagine, will ever see again. HD and a large screen are pretty much obligatory for watching this video, and we guarantee that you’ll be watching it over and over again. Enter Danny’s mind and enjoy...
