International trials competition is unusual in that two different circuits coexist, governed by two federations who do not cooperate and who apply subtley different rules: the BIU federation, where it all started, was the first to make trials a competition sport in its own right, and the UCI, which has developed considerably over the last few years and is now regarded by many as the official governing body of the discipline. The BIU circuit still remains very active, with inveterate support from the Spanish brand, Monty, and this year has organised a completely new three round European Cup.
The first of these three rounds took place on the 9th of May in Brezova in the Czech Republic. The Elite competition was won by Czech Biketrial Champion Vaclav Kolar (Monty) and Senior Class was won by French Koxx rider Thomas Francisco! In Junior, UCI European Champion Nicolas Massart took the win, with a decisive second lap! The sections were not of a very high level and seemed more tailored for 20" bikes. They consisted mainly of rocks brought up from the bottom of the venue, while the top half of the venue was more typical of Eastern countries, with mud and roots under the trees, there was even a stream section! The sections were wet thanks to the storm the night before and it was cloudy on the day.
Here are the podium results and full results of the competition. The next round takes place on the 28th of June in Darfo Boario Terme in Italy!
