JPEG - 3.1 kb The fourth round of the Onza sponsored 2010 British National Trials Cup took place on Sunday 18th July at Bracken Rocks in Derbyshire. The sections, which had been set the day before in dry conditions, had been rendered slippery and treacherous by the rain overnight and in the morning making for some very high scores all round. Despite that, and the discovery of a wasps’ nest towards the end of one of the sections (!), a great day was had by all and we saw very some impressive riding!

Elite category saw low entries in both 26” and 20” with many of the top riders conspicuous by their absence. The sections were tough having been designed to test riders’ abilities and prepare them for the summer’s world events and some riders voiced concern over the safety of some of the moves after the previous night’s rain. Nevertheless, most riders managed to complete the trial and everyone we spoke to said that they had really enjoyed the event. In 26” Dave Kerr took the win, dropping 37 points. James Hyland finished in second on 39 and Adam Bessel finished off the podium with 69.

Tribal rider Jack Carthy finished first in 20” with just 25 points after an excellent ride that saw him come in 21 points ahead of second place Tom Rankin (46)! Ryan Trickett finished in third place with 60 points in his first ever Elite national!

Expert riders faced sections that were just as daunting, with some passages that, although fine in the dry, wouldn’t have been out of place in the Elite sections on this wet and muddy Sunday! Jaime Pedrosa put in a great ride, finishing on 62 points to take the top spot. He was followed by Paul Wood on 65 and Tom Rigg on 71.

Novice class is an interesting one at the moment with future champions Adam Morewood, Charlie Rolls and Sam Rolls taking the top three spots. These three riders are all performing very well at the moment with great results in both national and international competitions, as we’ve said time and again, keep your eyes on them!
